Lead Apparel Designer
Our client is seeking a Lead Apparel Designer to own the design and execution of performance-driven apparel styles across seasonal product lines. This role is hands-on and design-forward, with a strong emphasis on creating apparel silhouettes, construction-informed design solutions, and style innovation—not color, materials, or concept-only work. The ideal candidate brings deep apparel design experience, fluency in garment construction, and the ability to lead designs from initial concept through production readiness in a highly collaborative, confidential environment.

This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.

Lead Apparel Designer Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end apparel style design process, creating original garment silhouettes and design solutions from concept through final production readiness.
  • Develop performance-focused apparel designs that balance function, fit, construction, and aesthetic intent.
  • Translate design concepts into clear visual and technical execution through sketches, digital tools, and physical or virtual prototypes.
  • Collaborate closely with development, product management, and cross-functional partners to ensure design intent is maintained through fit, materials, cost, and timeline constraints.
  • Apply strong knowledge of garment construction, patterning, and assembly to inform design decisions and elevate product quality.
  • Review prototypes and samples, providing clear, actionable feedback to support iterative improvements.
  • Present design concepts, styles, and product stories with clarity and confidence to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality while working on forward-looking and unreleased product initiatives.

Lead Apparel Designer Qualifications

  • At least five years of professional experience designing apparel styles, with demonstrated ownership of garment design from concept through production.
  • Strong expertise in apparel construction, fit, and how garments are engineered and assembled.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, with experience using CLO or similar 3D apparel design tools.
  • A portfolio that clearly demonstrates apparel style design and garment creation, not primarily color, materials, graphics, or mood-board-driven work.
  • Experience designing performance, sport, or technically driven apparel.
  • Strong visual communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a cross-functional environment while independently managing multiple design priorities.
  • Experience working within global or large-scale apparel brands is a plus.
  • A degree in apparel design or a related field is preferred but not required.

Compensation: Up to $50/hr. (DOE)
