Temporary Staff Accountant
Our Portland local client seeks an experienced Staff Accountant will support daily accounting, financial, and administrative functions to ensure smooth operations and compliance with state, federal, and nonprofit regulations. The ideal candidate enjoys working with a purpose-driven team and has strong attention to detail, excellent record-keeping abilities, and effective communication skills to collaborate with staff, management, vendors, and community stakeholders.
This is a hybrid role requiring qualified applicants to commute weekly to offices in Portland, Oregon.
Temporary Staff Accountant Responsibilities
- Maintain and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts and process approved journal entries.
- Review monthly GL expenses, ensure accurate coding, and verify reimbursable costs.
- Approve credit card purchases, follow up on outstanding transactions, and manage voided checks.
- Prepare and enter various monthly allocation reports, including payroll and employee benefits.
- Reconcile bank and credit card accounts, review financial transactions, and assist in closing processes.
- Assist with audits, funder documentation, and compliance reporting.
- Assist with AP and AR activities.
Temporary Staff Accountant Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field; will consider equivalent work experience.
- At least 3 years of relevant accounting experience; exposure to nonprofit or related industry preferred.
- Strong knowledge of full-process accounting functions and GAAP.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (NetSuite or similar), QuickBooks, and intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
- Customer service-oriented with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Deadline-driven with the ability to effectively multi-task and maintain exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Salary: $30-$35/hr. (DOE)
