Senior Mechanical Engineer
This role exists to research, plan, design and document mechanical & electromechanical products and systems. In addition, the Mechanical Engineer directs and coordinates external resources involved in the design, fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical and electromechanical products and systems. This role requires experience working with ODM’s and Sourcing to bring new product designs/concepts to market.
This role is Hybrid with three days on-site and two days remote
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Act as Sr. Mechanical Engineering for NPI and sustaining ME tasks.
Research & analyze data such as customer design proposal, specifications, & manuals to determine feasibility of design and or application.
Act as experienced engineer and mentor to other design staff in the development of cosmetic and or structural products that are manufactured using common practices for metal and plastic components.
Analyze product requirements, establish specifications, and engineer solutions which can be produced by volume manufacturing or processing facilities & methods.
Provide knowledge transfer and ongoing guidance and decision-making to external development partners in US and Asia, on-site as needed.
Use predictive engineering analysis tools and experiments to establish proof of concept.
Provide technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, & process advantages & limitations for plastics and metal fabrication.
Ownership of issues to clarify or resolve problems & develop design changes.
Prepare and direct product design, system layouts, detailed drawings & schematics.
Direct & coordinate fabrication and assembly of prototypes.
Plan & develop experimental test programs, analyze test data & reports to determine if design meets functional & performance specifications, provide recommendations, and generate technical documents.
Evaluate field installations & recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
Qualifications
Thorough knowledge of standard engineering principles, theories and concepts of mechanical design.
Must thrive in a fast-paced NPI environment.
Proven ability to work with offshore manufacturing, sourcing and development resources required.
Ability to travel internationally required.
Proven ability to create engineering validation tests (EVT) and clearly report on findings.
Working knowledge of MS Office programs required.
Design – Generates creative solutions; applies design principles; demonstrates attention to detail. Specific experience with injection molded plastic, sheet metal parts, and assemblies are required.
Design for Manufacturability – Analyze and modify piece part designs to meet manufacturability and moldability requirements of volume plastic manufacturing processes.
Design for Assembly – Analyze and direct design and assembly reviews to comply with DFA principles and practices.
DFMEA – Able to evaluate designs and proposals for DFMEA scoring and mitigation.
Problem Solving – Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.
Project Management – Develops project plans; coordinates projects; communicates changes and progress; completes projects on time and budget. Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary projects.

Required Education and Experience
8+ years’ experience in design of injection molded plastic parts and metal fabrication (sheet metal stamping/forming, diecasting, Metal Injection Molding). Includes principles of DFM in metal and plastic production processes.
8+ years’ experience in understanding and defining and directing product assembly processes including principles basic principles of DFA (design for assembly). Includes ability to evaluate and guide contract manufacturers in DFA practices.
Experience in or direct interaction with plastic mold tooling structure, principles of Design for Moldability, and molding process factors affecting part quality and consistency.
High degree of competency using SolidWorks 3D CAD (2014 or later), particularly in design of molded and sheet metal parts.
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
Preferred
Machine and hand tool skills – general competency in working with hand and power tools in a prototype shop environment to fabricate, repair, or alter parts for functionality and appearance.
3D Printing – understanding of the principles and practicality of various metal and non-metal prototyping and 3D printing technologies.
Salary: $100,000k-$110,000k/yr. (DOE)
