Power Electronics Design Engineer
We are seeking a skilled Power Electronics Design Engineer to join our team. This role involves designing, developing, and optimizing DC fast charging (DCFC) systems for electric vehicles (EVs). The ideal candidate will have expertise in power electronics, high-voltage electrical systems, and energy storage. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with industry standards and contribute to next-generation EV charging infrastructure.

This position is onsite in Portland, OR, relocation assistance may be available.

Power Electronics Design Engineer Responsibilities
Design and develop high-power DC fast chargers (50kW–500kW) with advanced power electronics.
Select and integrate components such as rectifiers, inverters, transformers, and cooling systems for optimal performance and efficiency.
Develop electrical schematics, circuit designs, and layouts using CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Altium, or EPLAN).
Perform simulations and analysis for power conversion, thermal management, and electromagnetic interference (EMI/EMC) compliance.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards such as UL 2202, NEC, SAE J1772, ISO 15118, and IEC 61851.
Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers to integrate electrical designs into final charger products.
Work with suppliers to evaluate components and ensure compatibility with system requirements.
Develop and execute test plans for validation of power electronics and system performance.
Troubleshoot electrical issues during design, prototyping, and field deployment.
Provide technical support for manufacturing, installation, and commissioning of DC fast chargers.

Power Electronics Design Engineer Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in power electronics design in DC fast EV charging with companies such as Freewire, Rhombus, Lincoln Electric or ABB is required.  Direct experience integrating infypower ACDC power modules into DC fast chargers is highly desirable. Experience with renewable energy, or industrial power systems is also desirable.
Proficiency in circuit design software (e.g., LTspice, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar tools).
Experience with high-voltage systems (400V–1000V DC) and safety considerations.
Knowledge of AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion, rectifiers, and grid integration.
Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, OCPP, and PLC for EV chargers.
Experience in thermal and EMI/EMC design and mitigation techniques.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with SiC/GaN power semiconductors in power conversion applications.
Hands-on experience with hardware testing, debugging, and validation of power electronics.
Knowledge of energy storage integration in EV charging systems.
Understanding of grid-tied power electronics and utility-scale power conversion.
Previous work experience with EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) manufacturers or power system integrators.

Compensation: $100-$140K
