Mechanical Designer
Our client, a leading Consulting Engineering firm, is seeking a Mechanical Designer to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have experience in mechanical design using AutoCAD and Revit for HVAC or plumbing systems, and proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting projects, including mid-rise apartments, offices, mixed-use, retail buildings, and other commercial, municipal, and high-tech educational facilities. The firm is committed to sustainability, incorporating the latest Green Building standards, such as LEED, Green Globes, and Earth Advantage.
This role is majority onsite in Portland, Oregon.
Mechanical Designer Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Designer, you will be an integral part of the team, contributing to the design and development of mechanical systems in a wide range of building types, from apartments and schools to manufacturing facilities and retail shopping centers.
- Design plumbing systems for water, sanitary, chemical waste, and storm drainage, ensuring code compliance (Uniform Plumbing Code and International Mechanical Codes).
- Prepare HVAC plans for air and water distribution, including duct and pipe sizing, load calculations, and equipment selection for systems like central plants.
- Create specifications for fire protection systems (e.g., ESFR and AFFF).
- Develop designs for specialized environments, ensuring precise temperature, humidity, and filtration control.
- Design chemical and particulate exhaust systems and perform pipe stress analysis for temperature and seismic conditions.
- Contribute to cost estimates, energy, and life-cycle cost studies to ensure project efficiency and sustainability.
- Engage in forensic investigations, including reporting findings and providing solutions.
- Collaborate closely with clients, showing strong communication and consultative skills to clarify technical questions and address client needs effectively.
Mechanical Designer Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or related field.
- 1-5 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on plumbing or HVAC systems.
- Familiarity with the latest Green Building standards (LEED, Green Globes, Earth Advantage).
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to perform load calculations, duct, and pipe sizing, and equipment selections.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
- Prior experience in the consulting or construction industry is highly preferred.
- Self-motivated, with a strong desire to learn and apply building codes and mechanical standards.
Preferred:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Familiarity with sustainable design practices and the integration of Green Building standards.
- Strong work ethic, showing enthusiasm, curiosity, and an eagerness to improve and contribute to various project types.
- Ability to navigate construction documentation and coordinate with cross-functional teams.
Salary: $65K-$85K/year. (DOE)
