Manager – Project Controls
Our client is seeking a seasoned Manager of Project Controls to lead the people, processes, and systems that guide complex, multi-year technical programs. This leader will oversee project planning, scheduling, cost management, earned value reporting, and change control while driving consistency, operational excellence, and data-driven decision-making. The Manager will support project leaders in delivering work on schedule, on budget, and in alignment with organizational standards.
This role is onsite in Houston, Texas with the possibility of a hybrid work model.
Manager – Project Controls Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of project controls professionals, fostering accountability, technical rigor, and continuous learning.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of integrated schedules, cost baselines, and earned value management frameworks to ensure consistent and accurate reporting across projects.
- Implement scalable project controls practices tailored to project size and complexity, ensuring high-quality baselines, forecasts, and change management processes.
- Establish and monitor project performance metrics, including schedule and cost indicators, to assess overall project health.
- Partner with internal departments—including Finance, Procurement, and Accounting—to ensure alignment on data needs, reporting requirements, and project deliverables.
- Develop and refine reporting tools, dashboards, and analytics (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) to provide real-time insights for senior leadership.
- Strengthen communication across cross-functional teams to support consistent execution of project controls activities.
- Identify opportunities to enhance project controls methodologies, standards, and digital tools, incorporating lessons learned and innovative practices.
- Support organizational improvement initiatives, including automation, AI-enabled analytics, and broader digital transformation efforts.
- Perform periodic assessments of project controls maturity and recommend improvements.
Manager – Project Controls Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business (preferred).
- Eight or more years of project controls experience, including at least five years managing teams and overseeing complex projects.
- Strong expertise with scheduling platforms (e.g., Primavera P6), budgeting tools, ERP systems, and project controls applications (e.g., PRISM G2).
- Demonstrated knowledge of PMI project management principles and earned value management practices (ANSI/EIA-748).
- Experience supporting large-scale programs in regulated or highly technical industries such as energy, engineering, EPC, or government-funded projects (preferred).
- PMP certification or similar professional credential (preferred).
- AACE certifications such as CCP or PSP (preferred).
- Ability to meet Department of Energy eligibility requirements under 10 CFR Part 810.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and planning skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic environment and build collaborative relationships.
- Commitment to quality, safety, and adherence to organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
Salary: $136K-$165K/year. (DOE)
