Environmental Health & Safety Manager
Our client is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Manager to join their team. This role will plan, implement, and coordinate safety and environmental programs, requiring application of safety principles and technology, to prevent or correct unsafe working and environmental conditions. You will develop and drive interdepartmental teams and projects to evaluate, develop and implement policies, training, metrics, assessments and hazard controls to ensure regulatory compliance, regarding occupational safety.
This role will provide technical expertise in operations and management to help evaluate risks and cost-effectively resolve health and safety issues, including recommendations from incident investigations and internal safety audits. You will serve on interdepartmental teams, facilitate safety audits, develop safety procedures, lead and/or participate in incident investigations and safety training, and interface with external regulatory organizations.
Essential Functions
Partner with the operations team to create and develop safety programs and policies that provide a safe and healthful workplace that is free from serious recognized hazards and adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.
Support safety activities of unit manufacturing supervisors while providing them guidance and feedback.
Conduct machine risk assessments, and hazard evaluations, implementing their controls in support of risk reduction.
Lead investigations to identify the root cause of incidents, near misses and injuries. Develop programs to prevent these incidents, near misses and injuries, then develop and distribute corrective actions, and work to launch these programs successfully.
Organize and conduct facility, work area, and equipment safety audits.
Prepare and administer various safety training programs. This includes administering and maintaining records for training related to forklifts, LOTO, fall protection, fire prevention, building evacuations, CPR and first aid, reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing, and hazardous waste handling.
Identify employee safety training and certification needs, then identify or develop materials and courses covering those topics.
Maintain and administer the annual safety budget.
Compile, analyze, and interpret incident data related to occupational illnesses and accidents and report to business leaders.
Lead and administer the monthly safety committee meeting, and act as the primary point of contact for outside organizations such as fire department and other emergency services to assure information exchange and mutual assistance during emergencies.
Develop and maintain environmental health programs consistent with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines and regulations, including environmental permit compliance such as DEQ: Wastewater, Storm Water, Hazardous Waste Generator/ Hazardous Materials, Fire Marshall.
Additional Functions
Partner with leadership, sourcing and required suppliers to add, change or maintain inventories of safety equipment and PPE per individual, team specific or company as needs arise in a timely manner.
Contribute to waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability efforts.

Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree related to Occupational Safety, Public Health, Industrial Hygiene or equivalent experience required. CSP (certified safety professional) or ASP (associate safety professional) preferred.
Familiarity with ANSI workplace safety standards preferred.
Minimum three years managing an EHS program preferably in a fast paced manufacturing environment. Experience should include most of the above essential functions.
Experience writing and editing safety policies, programs and evacuation maps. Experience creating and editing Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Photoshop documents. Experience administering a digital safety management system.
Understanding of environmental and occupational safety regulations at local, state and federal levels.
Uses a proactive approach to quickly recognize hazards. Is then able to quickly partner with leadership to correct them. Understands and uses STOP WORK authority if critically dangerous hazards present themselves.
Excellent skills in developing interpersonal relations, communication and teamwork, including leadership and coaching experience. Ability to communicate effectively to influence others and gain support to achieve results in a cooperative manner.
Effectively organize, prioritize and manage multiple complex assignments, projects and issues simultaneously.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Work independently, collaboratively; possess a high level of self-motivation, initiative and innovative problem solving.
Working conditions and physical demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will split time between the manufacturing floor, office area, and North warehouse. Sitting, standing, walking is frequent. Bending, kneeling, stooping, grasping, lifting, pushing, pulling, and reaching, are regular but infrequent. The employee must be able to talk/hear and see clearly enough to complete the above job functions. The employee may be asked to travel at times, must be responsive and flexible to meet the needs of a near 24 hour production operation.
Salary: $70,000- $90,000/yr. (DOE)
