Apparel Pattern Engineer
Our client is seeking an Apparel Pattern Engineer to support women’s performance apparel across their apparel product lines. This role focuses on transforming design concepts into precise, production-ready patterns that ensure proper fit, function, and athletic performance. The ideal candidate blends deep technical pattern-making expertise with hands-on garment construction knowledge and the confidence to collaborate directly with designers and athletes.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Apparel Pattern Engineer Responsibilities
- Develop and refine technical garment patterns based on design sketches, fit intent, and performance requirements.
- Create, adjust, and validate women’s athletic patterns from initial concept through finalized production-ready specifications.
- Conduct fit analysis, make pattern corrections, and resolve construction issues to ensure proper movement, comfort, and durability.
- Collaborate with designers, product teams, and wear testers to translate creative concepts into functional, wearable garments.
- Produce and maintain detailed technical documentation, including measurements, construction notes, and revision histories within digital tracking systems.
Apparel Pattern Engineer Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience creating and modifying women’s apparel patterns in a technical design, pattern engineering, or sample development environment.
- Proven ability to build garment patterns from a designer’s sketch or concept, including drafting blocks, grading, and fit corrections through multiple iterations.
- Deep understanding of knit garment construction, stretch behavior, and performance fit, with working knowledge of woven structures for skirts, dresses, and layering pieces.
- Experience conducting live fit sessions, evaluating movement and performance, and translating feedback into precise pattern adjustments.
- Proficiency using digital pattern, PLM, or technical specification tools (such as PDM, PCX, or comparable web-based systems) to document measurements, revisions, and construction details.
- Strong technical communication skills, including writing clear construction notes, measurement charts, and pattern change documentation for production partners.
- Portfolio demonstrating real-world pattern engineering work, including examples of pattern complexity, fit development, and garment construction across women’s athletic or performance products.
