Senior Systems Engineer

The Senior Systems Engineer acts as a technical expert in the maintenance, support and implementation of the company’s internal servers and operating systems, both on premises and in the AWS public cloud. This position installs, configures and troubleshoots various operating systems, predominately Microsoft Systems for reliability, stability and performance. The Senior Systems Engineer is a key contributor to the IT team and provides technical insight and guidance to leadership for all Microsoft related infrastructure including Internal Certificates, DNS, DHCP, IIS, AD, Hyper-V clusters and respective storage.

Essential Position Functions:
Ability to translate system requirements into technical design and implement that design.
Support enterprise-wide applications and large-scale computing applications involving hundreds of users.
Perform high-level systems analysis, evaluation, design, integration, documentation and implementation of very complex applications that require a thorough knowledge of administrative and technical skills.
Apply higher-level business or technical principles and methods to very difficult technical problems to arrive at automated engineering solutions.
Support system upgrades and maintenance.
Design infrastructure to maintain system security and high availability.
Analyze and isolate issues.
Monitor Systems to ensure security and availability to users.
Troubleshoot, maintain and repair complex systems, typically related to servers, hardware, operating systems, security, applications, database structures and data protection.
Practical experience with Virtualization best practices and implementation of Hyper-V / Vmware.
Knowledge and experience with Microsoft SCCM, PowerShell, Group Policy and Cloud technologies like Azure/AWS.
Develop, test and implement complex scripts to automate common functions or system operations.
Provide training and mentoring to other team members on high-level design, implementation, and automation.
Research and investigate new capabilities of cloud services and other technologies. Provide timely insight and advice to leadership team to permit the leveraging of these technologies in future plans.
Cope in a technically complex and fast changing environment, and to respond calmly and rationally to changing priorities.

Non-Essential Position Functions:
Develop and implement various training, job aids and instruction for users on the use of operating systems, networking, applications and databases.

Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a related field and seven years of professional information technology experience installing, maintaining and/or modifying operating system and/or network operating system software and associated hardware; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience which will provide the ability to perform the essential functions of the position. 
Position requires 5-10 years of system administration experience and practical scripting experience with PowerShell, Python or other common scripting language. Experience with Amazon Web Services is desired and preferred.

Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
MCSE, AWS Associate Solutions Architect preferred. Knowledge of:
Operating systems and applications, and software troubleshooting.
Adept at using scripting languages like PowerShell and Python.
Apply a comprehensive knowledge across key tasks and high impact assignments.
Working knowledge of Network technologies as they relate to servers and systems.
Configuration of authentication and authorization of Active Directory services including federation.

Ability to:
Track, manage and ensure projects are kept on track, and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
