Our client is seeking a senior microwave hardware engineer possessing extensive experience with microwave antenna component design and associated manufacturing and processing experience with RF materials. This person will design working antenna components, such as radomes, dielectric waveguides, and frequency selective surfaces, given desired RF and microwave characteristics, and develop test procedures to confirm electrical performance. This person will also query and source suppliers for the antenna materials. Because this position entails both theoretical and practical aspects of antenna design, the candidate must possess a background in microwave component materials, their associated high frequency properties, and how those properties factor into antenna performance. In addition, this person must be familiar with how physical properties affect material processing and manufacture and be able to employ these criteria in discerning among suppliers. This role is located in Redmond, WA.
Translate microwave performance design specifications into realistic, manufacturable antenna hardware.
Assess potential performance of candidate radome materials by evaluating dielectric, thermal and physical properties both on paper and by testing.
Evaluate the manufacturability of candidate radome materials in terms of, for example, thermoplastic versus thermosetting properties and processability in volume.
Develop a supply chain for antenna materials.
B.S. in electrical engineering, physics, materials science or related field; M.S. preferred.
At least ten years’ experience in electromagnetic component design, primarily encompassing passive microwave components.
At least eight years’ experience converting microwave component designs into manufacturable hardware.
At least eight years’ experience evaluating and selecting materials for antennas based upon dielectric, thermal, and other physical properties.
Extensive knowledge of dielectric and composite materials along with their properties and manufacturing processes.
Working knowledge of electromagnetic analysis tools (for example, HFSS, FEKO, PMM, XPATCH, RAM2D).
Practical experience using RF test equipment such as a vector network analyzer (VNA) to evaluate. microwave devices; experience with near field and compact antenna ranges highly desirable.
Ability to develop product designs independently and cooperatively in a team setting and verify those designs through prototype fabrication and testing.
