Our client is seeking a Metallurgical Technician to join their team in Portland, OR. This role will conduct tests to determine the physical/mechanical properties of materials, products, and components.
Use some statistical tools to analyze data, produce test reports, and communicate results to laboratory customers (Design Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, etc.).
Assist in conducting laboratory tours, as well as maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities.
Primary Task (85%) – Laboratory testing and report writing
Operate different laboratory test platforms to generate data for customers.
Analyze and interpret data (with help of Sr. technicians and metallurgical engineers).
Write professional lab reports.
Capable of balancing workload, and communicating with requestors.
Directly support PDX Manufacturing with standard test methods.
Aid in troubleshooting equipment malfunctions.
Participate in gauge/calibration studies.
Second Task (10%) – Lab efficiency tasks and problem solving
Participate in group events aimed at improving the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the MET lab.
Adhere and champion lab safety protocols
Properly document and archive work according to lab practices
Retain records for equipment maintenance/calibration
Propose improvement opportunities in daily tasks
Participate in weekly 5S activities
Third Task (5%) – Communication and Team Meetings
Participate in weekly scheduling meetings with MET team, and morning DMS discussions.
Occasionally participate in giving lab tours.
Occasionally attend meetings with functional groups to help interpret data, and explain data collection practices.
Communicate with outside vendors and customers.
Must have competency in communicating via written documents (Microsoft Word), and e-mails (Microsoft Outlook).
Attention to detail is preferred, as many test platforms have detailed maintenance and calibration records.
High school diploma or GED
Knowledge of materials science, or experience in a materials lab is preferred
3-10 of years of experience in field related to materials testing
Interest in continuous learning
Desire to become proficient in multiple test platforms
Flexibility in work assignments
Attention to quality (ISO 9001).
Strong inter-personal skills.
Familiarity with hand tools and power tools (mechanically-inclined).
Familiarity with calibration practices.
Understanding of product offerings and/or manufacturing experience is preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and data management software (SAP preferred).
