Grid Operations Systems Analyst

Our client is seeking a Grid Operations System Analyst to join their team in Portland, OR. This role operates the transmission and distribution systems in compliance with electric system reliability standards, applicable tariffs and other rules and take actions necessary to protect electrical equipment and ensure public safety.

Grid Operations Systems Analyst Responsibilities
Troubleshoots and maintains applications and systems used within the Control Center. Designs, implements and maintains multiple applications and systems. Maintains high availability of critical systems in the department. Supports integration efforts between systems.
Reviews operational processes, complex operational plans, procedures and documentation to support operations. Supports development and modification of real-time procedures and processes. Maintains the associated documentation and coordinates with other staff to implement improvements.
Provides support for reliability and cybersecurity compliance-related activities of the Grid Operations Center. Participates in regulatory audits, spot checks and other processes as a subject matter expert. Provides input, upon request, as a contributor to demonstrate compliance with regulatory standards. Recommends and implements compliance documentation enhancements that improve operating efficiencies.
Participates in projects developing systems and applications used in the Control Center, including identifying requirements and user acceptance criteria.
Provides technical assistance and training to other analysts and to those outside of the department. Communicates with others regarding systems activities within the department.

Grid Operations Systems Analyst Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems or relevant field of study or equivalent experience.
5 or more years of experience supporting a Control Center in daily operations of transmission generation and distribution systems or equivalent combination of utility operations and IT experience.
Professional Engineering (PE) designation a plus; IT certification a plus.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)
Requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems or relevant field of study or equivalent experience.
5 or more years of experience supporting a Control Center in daily operations of transmission generation and distribution systems or equivalent combination of utility operations and IT experience.
Professional Engineering (PE) designation a plus; IT certification a plus.
Experience with Open Systems International Monarch EMS Platform or similar application suite is required.
Experience with OSI Soft PI Data Historian is preferred.
Experience with Distribution Outage Management / Distribution Management System is preferred.
Experience in computer programming, scripting and application development is preferred.
Experience in information systems security standards, practices and tools are preferred.

Through knowledge and experience in SCADA/EMS systems and EMS advanced applications.
Through understanding of the utility electrical system and substations and generation plants (Design and Operations).
Through knowledge and experience in System Administration, Backup Storage, Database Administration, Application Development, Operating Systems, Cyber Security and Networking (eg. ESX, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 7, Cisco networking equipment, SQL Server).
Knowledge and experience in using SCADA protocols (ICCP, DNP 3.0, L&G8979).
Knowledge and understanding of telecommunication and computer networks used for SCADA and control system networks.
Advanced knowledge of systems used in department
