Our client has an immediate need for a Business Architect for a duration of 3 months. They are in the process of building out an end-to-end of capability model with mapping from business capability to technical capability, to software products and applications.
The Effort Will Enable:
Strategic alignment from the executives through departments to IT business solutions.
Increased top-down transparency and alignment on priorities based on common goals.
Increased visibility on capability maturity and aspirations.
The Business Architect will work with IT&S Enterprise Architecture, business units, IT&S Enterprise Applications and other IT&S teams to establish a business architecture framework to build out this end-to-end model with focus on value streams. The primary purpose of this effort is to shape the project, software portfolio prioritization and portfolio change impact analysis process. The Business Architect will update the exiting Value stream model, Business Capability model, refine and expand it based on industry best practices and business partner feedback, and right-size it for the current and future needs. This role will be forward focused to set up the foundation that will transform business through technology enablement to increased business agility.
The project is expected to include two primary roles working in close coordination:
Senior Business Analyst
Validate and refine enterprise value streams, enterprise business capability maps, and map the dependencies from top-down to software products.
Work closely with business partners to vet, refine and validate the definition, identification and documentation of value streams with forward looking approach.
Expand and refine the existing capability map, map business capabilities to value streams, identify capability maturity gaps and documents targeted capability maturity levels.
Translate the capabilities in the people, process and technology terms to document value streams and “To Be” high level business process with business partners prioritized efficiency/value targets.
Develop framework to capture value metrics at the capability level and translate that to IT capabilities and applications.
Translate business objectives and goals into business outcome statements and get approval from the business partners.
Refine our existing strategic software product roadmaps into business outcome driven and business capability-based roadmaps.
Apply the end-to-end capability model to shape the software portfolio prioritization and portfolio change impact analysis process.
Business architect as part of managing and successfully completing the scope.
Establish and maintain productive business partnerships across the organization.
Manage expectations through direct and routine interaction with business partners.
Create deliverables using standard templates, using natural language that is unambiguous and concise.
Work in close partnership with a Senior Business Analyst to deliver the expected outcomes from this initiative, providing required guidance and consulting as part of the process.
Refine and validated Enterprise Value Stream Maps.
Identified revenue-generating activities
Identified company value based operational streams.
Refined and expanded Business Capability Map for identified business units o Identified Business objectives at the value stream level and at the business capability level.
Assessed Business Capability maturity levels – Identification of gaps and pain points for the identified capabilities.
Identified Business Capabilities that don’t have enabling IT solutions.
Business Capabilities mapped to technical capabilities (product agnostic and in partnership with Enterprise Architects) o Documented gaps in technical capabilities (e.g., new capabilities or upgrade required).
Business capabilities mapped to data domains o Mapped data domains to business capabilities (e.g. Marketing database and external data sets for demographics).
Identified gaps in data portfolio to enable/support business capabilities in partnership with Data Architect.
Refined Software Asset Catalog (finalized and approved by the stakeholders and management).
Completed and validated Software Asset Catalog (i.e., completed missing information with focus areas defined by Enterprise Architecture).
Documented and vetted software products functional scope and capabilities.
Identified software portfolio rationalization opportunities.
Mapping & Dependencies o Business Strategies to Value Streams.
Value Streams to Business Capabilities (level 3).
Business Capabilities to Technical Capabilities
Data Domains to Business Capabilities.
Data Domains to Data Sources.
Applications to Data Sources.
Applications to Business Capabilities (level 3) and Technical Capabilities.
Direct mappings between components not directly connected through stated relationships, as applicable (e.g. Applications to Value Streams).
Verified population of the catalogs and mappings into corresponding Planview for on-going enterprise use.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or business-related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Master’s degree in Business related field preferred.
5 to 7 years of business architecture experience working as part of the enterprise architecture or closely with Enterprise Architecture team.
At least 5 years of experience in building capability models and mapping the dependencies between value streams, business capabilities, technical capabilities and software applications.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and to lead others in a directed effort to complete projects.
Familiarity working with Project Portfolio management and Technology Business Management software products (e.g. Planview Enterprise).
Advanced presentation skills, with proven ability to present at the Executive, Director and Manager levels.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including individual communication and group presentations, negotiation, and facilitation skills and techniques.
