Building Material Sales
The basic function of the Building Material Sales is customer satisfaction. This position represents the face of company.    

Building Material Sales Responsibilities
Know and perform the Seven Steps of Customer Service.        
Stock and maintain assigned area of store.
Answer phones with a confident attitude, willing to help the customer in whatever way necessary.
Complete customer transactions charge, cash and returns accurately.    
Continue to grow and expand product knowledge.
Maintain communication between other sales associates and departments.
Be a team player and foster a team atmosphere.
Maintain excellent and courteous relationships with all company employees.
Maintain company policies as written in handbook.
Self-manage time clock to ensure no overtime is acquired and adequate staffing levels are maintained.
Maintain appropriate attire and have name visible on apparel.
Perform various duties as assigned by management.
Have an understanding of competitors and their practices.
Represent company in a professional manner at all times.
Employee must respect the confidentiality of the company and staff members. 
Confidential information should never be disclosed.

Customer Service Duties
Greet customers.
Identify customer needs.
Share knowledge of uses and products for their project.
Ask customers for other items needed for the project.
Inform customers of something extra about the store, such as current flyer, manager’s special and upcoming sales.
Thank customers for coming in and for their business.
Never tell a customer no. Ask an associate for confirmation and find an alternate product.
Finish the Sale, when passing off the customer to another associate / yard personnel, introduce them, use names whenever possible.
Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
Possess a working knowledge of Price Match Guarantee.
Receive payment on accounts (ROA) correctly within terms.
Understand company policy when selling into the negative, follow proper procedure to insure counts are corrected.
Maintain the profit objectives as they come from management's goals and objectives.
Be willing to expand product knowledge and uses.  This includes attending product knowledge meetings, huddles, keeping informed and updated on products.
Complete and verify all paperwork assigned in a timely manner.
Create purchase orders for special order items, attach confirmation and review for accuracy and completeness in a timely manner.
Have knowledge and ability to properly take an order for delivery with proper fees as set by company policy.
Communicate effectively with contractors, have a working knowledge of construction consumption of products from foundation to finish.
Communicate defectively with yard personnel regarding information for orders and delivery commitments.
Answer phone by third ring, "courteously" even while with a customer. The phone call could be the store’s next sale. 
When performing cashier duties, ensure accuracy in ringing up the sale and cash is being exchanged correctly. If a charge account, confirm it is the correct account and complete the transaction accurately. Verify the customer is qualified to sign on account, call account holder for approval to complete the sale.
Ensure that nothing leaves the store without being paid for and invoiced.
Once submitted all estimates must be contacted within 48 hours to determine our position.
Process merchandise returns if product meets the proper criteria.  Verify product accuracy and completeness in a timely manner.
Have knowledge and ability to properly take an order for delivery with proper consumption of products from foundation to finish.
Communicate effectively with yard personnel regarding information for orders and delivery commitments.
Maintain a working knowledge of building permits in Curry and Del Norte counties.
Understand computer process to search orders and special orders.  Obtain the knowledge to identify whether paperwork is correct.  Have the ability to complete transactions and collect payment or charge to customers account.
Conduct outside sales activities for the company, on site and in the field.
In field activities must be performed within the guidelines established by company.
Outside sales is responsible for the completion of all transactions initiated by on site contact.
Personal contact reporting and documentation of concerns, problems, praises from on site customers is essential.  Trouble shoot problems or issues with products and relationships.
Organization of product knowledge training for sales staff and customers.
Outside sales is responsible to create a schedule of infield activities, a journal o those activities must be completed in a timely manner and distributed to the proper personnel for review and discussion. Outside sales is responsible to seek and establish relationships with clientele whom do not currently so business with company.
Outside sales is responsible for marketing philosophy, ability, sales staff ability, delivery service, products and inventory abilities to the local market.
Outside sales is responsible for current and new industry products that can supply to make their projects successful.
Outside sales will promote our company and products by initiating business within our market area in a way that exceeds our customers expectation through our abilities and sales staff.
Ensure proper information is gathered for estimates.
Follow through from start to finish with each customer. This may include handing off to other clerks/yard personnel, introduce your customer to the co-worker. (Work with your strengths)
Building Material Sales associates are not limited to the above tasks. The employee may be asked by a supervisor to assist in other duties whenever necessary.
                      
Merchandising Duties
Stock freight identifying through comparison of product, sku's and barcode.
Maintain shelf stock levels with proper facing, accurate bin labels and monitoring back stock. Stock DIB inventory in an orderly and timely manner and post signage and/or bin labels as necessary.
Assist in moving dated inventory, promoting to our customer base.
Preform cycle counts as assigned to ensure all items are counted accurately in a timely manner.
Building Maintenance associates are not limited to the above tasks. The employee may be asked by a supervisor to assist in other duties whenever necessary.

Facilities Duties
Perform assigned housekeeping duties such as sweeping and mopping in your assigned area. Assure all products are in correct location, clean and dust free. Keep aisles and designated work areas free and clear of merchandise.
Empty trash nightly.
Building Maintenance Sales Associates are not limited to the above tasks. The employee may be asked by a supervisor to assist in other duties whenever necessary.

Building Material Sales Qualifications
High School or Vocational School Graduate.
The use of analytical and observational skills which demonstrate an ability to make sales happen.  Excellent people skills and the ability to communicate well with customers and fellow employees.  Language ability includes reading, writing, spelling and the ability to communicate clearly on technical and business topic in the English language.
Preferred – College graduate in business, experience in sales and marketing or extensive experience in the hardware industry or related business.
Able to read and understand construction blueprints and ability to convert that knowledge into building material list.
