Area Line Manager
Our client is seeking an Area Line Manager to join their team in Portland, OR. This role is responsible for safe operations, efficiency and management of a region within Distribution Line Operations to achieve customer satisfaction and safety goals in an economic manner.

Responsibilities of the Area Line Manager
Ensures that Line Operations supervision is held accountable for maintaining safety and customer satisfaction as the priorities of their crews.
Ensures Line Operations supervision and crews maintain compliance with all federal, state, and company requirements.
Ensures maximum productivity and efficiency within their region by managing budgets; monitoring and approving expenditures.
Manages Line Ops supervision through proper selection, development, evaluation, recognition, coaching and discipline.
Manages various functions of Line Operations within their region.
Leads efforts to provide consistency among all Line Operations regions and departments.
Assesses and implements programs to increase productivity; shares resources company wide.
Oversees special projects.
Leads regional efforts to improve quality of construction and work practices that enhance reliability.
Directs restoration activities during outages; determines major restoration methods and directs implementation; assigns and serves on duty weeks. Participates in annual regional storm planning.
Provides direction in business improvement initiatives (standardization of policies, processes, and equipment within region).
Administers Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA); supports engagement with the Union and Labor Relations.
Provides direction to Line Operations Supervision in coordinating Line Operations activities with relevant utilities and contractors.
Directs Line Operations Supervision to ensure crews are taking appropriate measures to protect the environment and the public.
Participates in community activities and supports employee participation.
Backs up General Manager and Assistant General Manager as needed.
Presents outputs, gains understanding, identifies opportunities and develops support, resolves problems, establishes priorities and allocates resources, maximizes cross-functional operations, and recommends direction
Motivates and influences work practices. Listens, removes barriers, develops and rewards.
Builds leadership capabilities that move employees forward
Forms strong cross-functional working relationships in coordinating activities and expediting information and material sharing

External contacts include: vendors and manufacturers to review equipment and materials, other utilities and governmental agencies to exchange information; contractors to oversee supervisor interpretation of Company policy and control of work crew activities.
Labor Community - Partners with local union leadership and Labor Relations to develop a healthy working relationship, build a collaborative environment, and deal with employee issues.
Maintaining safety and customer focus.
Maintaining consistency in management of Line Operations.
Pushing through deep resistance to manage the consistent adoption of initiatives and efforts.
Determines strategies and tactics that align functional outcomes to business and divisional strategies.
Regional staffing decisions, including hire, fire, compensation and rewards.
Participates in regional budgetary decisions.    
Oversees prioritization of regional activities, allocation of labor and materials.
Enforces CBA and safety regulations.

Qualifications of the Area Line Manager
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in electric utility operations with a focus on Transmission and Distribution.
5 years of supervisory experience is desired.
A bachelor’s degree in business, communication or engineering is preferred, but not required.
Thorough knowledge of Distribution Line Operations including tools and equipment.
Thorough knowledge of service and installation policies and procedures.
Effective management, human relations and communication skills to include employee development and engagement, goal setting and follow-through, feedback, mentoring, coaching and negotiating.
Comprehensive knowledge of safe construction methods and national electrical safety code. 
Comprehensive knowledge of planning, organizing, and Line Operations crew functions and duties.
Comprehensive knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Strong analytical and organizational skills, verbal and written communication.
Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software.
Working knowledge of company philosophy, policies, practices, goals and objectives.
Working knowledge of federal and state laws relating to Company practices and operations.
Knowledge of operations planning and budgeting processes.
Must be able to travel throughout service territory and to all facilities.
Substantial decision-making and problem-solving ability.
Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Valid Driver’s License.
On Call 24 Hours per day, 365 days per year for emergency outages.
