Leave of Absence Specialist
This role is ideal for a seasoned Leave of Absence expert who thrives in a collaborative, service-driven environment. The ideal candidate brings strong judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to navigate complex, high-volume leave cases with clarity and empathy. They excel at partnering across HR, vendors, and employees to ensure compliant, seamless, and supportive leave experiences.
This role is onsite in Tacoma, Washington, Lake Oswego, Oregon, or Irvine, California.
Leave of Absence Specialist Responsibilities
- Oversee and administer full-cycle leave programs (FMLA, disability, paid/unpaid, state-specific leave) and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees, managers, and external leave vendors, providing clear guidance and timely issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate records and analytics, tracking leave statuses, trends, and program performance to support reporting and audits.
- Partner with internal HR teams to align leave processes with broader HR strategies, supporting adjacent areas such as benefits, payroll, and employee relations.
- Continuously evaluate and improve leave processes, policies, and documentation while staying current on regulatory updates and best practices.
Leave of Absence Specialist Qualifications
- 4–5 years of high-volume, in-house leave administration experience within organizations of 2,000–5,000+ employees.
- Advanced knowledge of federal, state, and local leave laws—particularly Oregon, Washington, California, and other multistate programs.
- Proficiency with Workday and leave management systems, with the ability to analyze leave trends, costs, and compliance data.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills with the ability to support employees with clarity, empathy, and discretion.
- Highly organized, adaptable professional with strong integrity and the ability to collaborate across HR, vendors, and leadership teams.
