Behavioral Health Consultant
Our client is seeking a licensed Behavioral Health Consultant to join their primary care team and deliver high-quality, patient-centered behavioral health support. This role is ideal for a clinician experienced in fast-paced, integrated care settings, particularly those serving diverse Medicare, Medicaid, and FQHC populations. The ideal candidate excels in brief, targeted interventions, collaborates seamlessly with medical providers, and brings strong clinical judgment to both patient-facing and consultative interactions.
This role is onsite in Oregon City, Oregon.
Behavioral Health Consultant Responsibilities
- Provide brief, solution-focused behavioral health assessments and interventions for adult and pediatric patients within a primary care environment.
- Collaborate closely with primary care providers to support treatment planning, care coordination, and real-time clinical consultations.
- Utilize a biopsychosocial approach to evaluate presenting concerns, including mental health symptoms, substance use issues, and behavioral factors affecting chronic medical conditions.
- Deliver short-term interventions across a wide range of medical and behavioral concerns commonly encountered in primary and specialty care settings.
- Educate patients and families on treatment recommendations, health behaviors, and medication considerations to support adherence and improved health outcomes.
- Document care efficiently and accurately within an EHR system, ensuring compliance with medical, billing, and administrative requirements.
- Assess and manage safety concerns, including suicidal or homicidal risk, and coordinate with crisis services or protective agencies as necessary.
- Provide consultation, training, and behavioral health expertise to medical staff and care teams to enhance integrated care delivery.
- Participate in case reviews and interdisciplinary discussions to support comprehensive, team-based care.
- Engage in high-volume, brief visits and maintain flexibility in shifting between patient care and provider consultation throughout the day.
Behavioral Health Consultant Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related behavioral health discipline; PsyD also accepted.
- Active Oregon licensure (LCSW, LPC, PsyD) required.
- Experience working with Medicare, Medicaid, and FQHC populations.
- Prior work in integrated or primary care settings with short-duration interventions strongly preferred.
- Recent clinical experience within the last five years required.
- Spanish fluency preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong ability to thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical environment with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated skill in working collaboratively within interdisciplinary medical teams.
- Knowledge of culturally responsive care and the impact of socioeconomic and cultural factors on health and patient presentation.
- Ability to teach or facilitate behavioral health groups or classes (e.g., insomnia, chronic pain, stress management).
- Competence in presenting clinical cases clearly and professionally to treatment teams.
- Experience supporting patients across the lifespan, from pediatrics through geriatrics.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to concisely share clinical insights with both patients and providers.
- Familiarity with psychotropic medications and the ability to advise primary care providers on behavioral health treatment considerations.
Salary: $88K-$110K/year. (DOE)
