Details
SAO ConnectPDX is a new kind of networking, relaxed, open, and the kind that fosters real connections.
You've been to enough networking events to know that they're usually a frantic business card swap, with shallow connections.
ConnectPDX is different. We provide a low key environment, in a fun space, where meeting people comes naturally.
We encourage professionals from different industries to attend, so everyone's networks can expand.
Free registration + great happy hour + great PDX connections = time well spent!
Blitz (Pearl) is open to minors until 9pm.
Where to park: If you're lucky, you can get metered street parking, but if you want a cheap garage, use Smart Park. |

Startup junkies, networkers, folks interested in learning new things and meeting new people, activists, and fun people!
Here's the gist:
o We were inspired by a fantastic recurring Portland happy hour event called Beer and Blog semi-coordinated by Silicon Florist & others.
o We liked that it's recurring and in a set-location and you can just put it on your calendar, and there will always be a few folks to catch up with.
o Folks who start companies are frequently inundated with coffee/lunch requests. This gives you a way to aggregate them and make intros/network in real-time.
Idea is that maybe we bring in speakers from time to time. Maybe tech-related, or maybe just cool/fun to help you learn something new/meet someone new.

2600 Seattle Monthly Meeting
2600 Seattle Monthly Meeting
Monthly at 6pm-9pm on the first Friday
Washington State Convention & Trade Center
Created ByRoy for SeattleTechCalendar
Descrwww.wa2600.org
Washington State Convention & Trade Center
800 Convention Place
Seattle, WA - 98101 (see map)
2600 meetings are held the first Friday of every month at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center, which has excellent transportation connections from the greater Puget Sound area.
2600 Meetings exist as a forum for all interested in technology to meet and talk about events in technology-land, learn, and teach. Meetings are open to anyone of any age or level of expertise.
All meetings take place on the first Friday of every month. Most people begin to show up around 6pm. We now meet on the second floor, at the tables behind the escalators.
The Seattle meeting is one of the longest-running and most well-established 2600 meetings in the country, with an average turnout of more than twenty attendees. Most people begin to show up around 6pm. We now meet on the second floor, at the tables behind the escalators.
It's a common misconception that 2600 meetings involve lawlessness and mayhem. If these are your interests, you will not only be disappointed, but will probably be banned from the meeting by the Convention Center's Security Team. Conversely, if you are the kind of person who takes things apart to learn how they work, you delight in discovering how things operate "behind the scenes," and you question not just "how" but also "why," you're a hacker--even if you don't do anything illegal! At the Seattle 2600 meeting, unlike almost anywhere else, you won't be considered weird or dangerous for being who you are. Instead, you'll discover that you're not alone, you'll learn new things, and--most importantly--you'll have a lot of fun!
Most hackers aren't what you have heard or read about in the popular media. We have a passion for technology, a driving curiosity, and a strong belief in changing the world. In our experience, these attributes aren't learned; they're a gift. Don't worry if you're new to technology; while technologies shift constantly, the hacker spirit endures. Our community has a broad range of backgrounds, interests, and walks of life. While we are sometimes willing to bend the rules in order to learn new things, real hackers aren't inclined to deface Web pages and empty bank accounts (even though many know how to do so). While it does not make for exciting news, hackers are--as a whole--much more likely to void the warranty on a piece of equipment by taking it apart. |

Website
30hourday.org
Description
The first 30 hour day--the livestreaming Web-based telethon we put together to raise money for charities in the Portland area--brought in around $7000 for Free Geek, the Oregon Food Bank, and Toys for Tots, a couple of barrels of food, and at least one overflowing barrel of toys. Not to mention generating 30 consecutive hours of entertainment from awesome local artists for more than 70,000 people who tuned in to watch.
Not bad for roughly six weeks from concept to completion.
Now, we're hard at work on 30 hour day 2. And it promises to be bigger and better than the first.
Mark your calendars! We'll see you on July 2, 2010. |

Tully's Coffee in Bella Botega shopping center, 8862 161st Ave NE, Redmond, WA
Organized by Meetul Shah meetuls@knouen.com
------ What is it: -----------
It's mostly founders\entrepreneurs get together to network and learn from each other. There is no fixed agenda. Sometimes there's a "table topic" proposed in advance. Some discussions that have happened recently: * People discuss what they're doing and get feedback * People have announced things they're doing and gotten good Q&A time * People have mentioned an idea they had for a business or web site and pros and cons were discussed * People asked for tips: Company formation, co-founder, funding, where to host, what co-working spaces are good, tradeoffs of different dev environments, etc We usually have anywhere from 5 to 25 people show up, couple service providers also show up once in a while If you have a particular topic you'd like to discuss and/or are looking for feedback, we'll probably discuss it. Also, it's at Tully's, so some people have been known to drink coffee. There is free WiFi if you care. |

Wireless - HackNight for Seattle Wireless
Wednesdays 7pm – 10pm
1605 Boylston Ave, Seattle
seattlewireless.net Hack Night is a weekly meeting held by Seattle Wireless. We now meet at Metrix at 1605 Boylston Ave at Pine around 7:00 PM. Always check the EventCalendar to confirm that we are planning to meet. This is a generally a work meeting. The purpose is to get together, communicate, relate problems, and actively work out technical issues that directly relate to building out the SeattleWireless network. We also work on problems encountered by individual node operators. Demos of software or hardware are also done on occasion. In the process, we all learn about things we didn't know before which is certainly in the spirit of Seattle Wireless. If you think Seattle Wireless is cool and are interested in setting up a node, stopping by HackNight is a great way to meet the other people involved and figure out how to get started. |

SeaFunc (Seattle Functional Language Programming Group)
When: Wed, July 7, 8pm – 11pm
Where: Location varies - see web page
tech.groups.yahoo.com For the uninitiated: "Functional Programming" (FP) treats computation as the symbolic substitution of functions. Solving problems by making changes to program state is often avoided. Common Lisp, Scheme, Standard ML, OCaml, Haskell, and Clean are examples of FP languages. Anyone interested in the design or use of advanced programming languages - functional or not - is encouraged to come. We've been meeting consistently since June 2004. We always have 8-10 people, so many good networking contacts can be gained. SeaFunc aims to be the premiere group in the Seattle region for advanced programming language paradgims. If you think there must be more to life than C++, Java, and C#, please join us! |

NWEN Monthly Breakfast
When: Fri, July 9, 7:45am – 9:30am
Where: MOHAI, Seattle
Let's face it – another business networking event in the heat of summer (come on, heat) just isn't that appealing. You'd really rather be gaming. At NWEN we feel your pain – and so we've combined the best of both worlds for our next breakfast. Our festive topic is the phenomenon of “gamification:” layering in “joy” to your business. This new trend cuts across every consumer-facing industry, from brick-and-mortar hospitality to web 2.0 technology. If you understand the basic human need to connect and compete, and can create community through “games” you may just increase loyalty, decrease churn, and amp up the fun factor in your startup. Join us as nationally renowned expert Scott Dodder of Bobber Interactive shares insights and anecdotes of this exciting and lucrative trend. One more point: a topic like this begs for audience participation and a very casual Friday. We encourage shorts and t-shirts, within some modicum of good taste (think your company picnic!). Attire is festive, mimosas are optional, and we’ll have a creative twist on networking. Fabulous prizes include free event passes and bragging rights. Let the games begin! We will cover questions like "What can Drupal do?", "Why choose Drupal?", and general concepts of on-line content management with a database behind your web site. Then we'll work through the basics of setting up a Drupal site. The cost is $25 (plus ticketing fees), and includes lunch. - Detailed information: poplarclass.com - Registration: seattledrupalclinic2010.eventbrite.com - Seattle Drupal Users Group: groups.drupal.org - Drupal: drupal.org |

Wednesdays 7pm – 10pm

seattlewireless.net Hack Night is a weekly meeting held by Seattle Wireless. |

When: Second Wednesday of every Month from 8pm – 11pm
Where:Location varies - see web page
tech.groups.yahoo.com For the uninitiated: "Functional Programming" (FP) treats computation as the symbolic substitution of functions. |

6:30pm – 8:30p, every Thursday
Spitfire -- 2219 4th Ave Seattle, WA 98121

Description
If the first years of OSCON were about opening the minds of big business to the philosophy of open source, are the years ahead about opening the minds of the open source community to the possibilities of its future? As open source becomes fully integrated into the corporate environment, OSCON helps to define, maintain, and extend the identity of what it means to be open source.
OSCON focuses on the substance of technology, not the shadow, filtering the information that most merits attention and preparing participants for curves and challenges in the coming year and beyond. OSCON is the place to be inspired and challenged, renew bonds to community, make new connections, and find ways to give back to the open source movement. OSCON has also become one of the most important places to make open source related announcements, and to unveil projects and products.
Open source is a fundamental principle at the core of many established and emerging technologies, driving the future of the computer industry. OSCON explores the open source technologies that are here to stay, what will broaden the foundation, and what will lead the way to unexpected places and innovations.
"For those who have not been to OSCON, it's a great technical conference covering the whole spectrum of open source, including Linux, MySQL, the LAMP stack, Perl, Python, Ruby on Rails, middleware, applications, cloud computing, and more. OSCON always has great keynotes, tutorials, and evening Birds-of-a-Feather sessions. As with many conferences, a lot of the meat takes place in hallway conversations and impromptu sessions."

Though we like knowing how many people to expect, you don't *have* to RSVP, on Upcoming or otherwise. Go ahead and just show up!
Many people also go for a drink and further discussion following the meeting, at a location determined ad hoc (lately, the Market Street Pub at 10th and Market: mcmenamins.com ).

SeaFunc (Seattle Functional Language Programming Group)
When: Wed, July 21, 8pm – 11pm

Hops and Chops
Hops and Chops
6:30pm – 8:30p, every Thursday
Spitfire -- 2219 4th Ave Seattle, WA 98121

Hops and Chops
Hops and Chops
6:30pm – 8:30p, every Thursday
Spitfire -- 2219 4th Ave Seattle, WA 98121
